Japanese Cushion Cover with Shōchikubai-mon Wind and Plant Motif
Shōchikubai refers to the "three friends of winter": pine, bamboo, and plum. Three plants that withstand the cold and together symbolize longevity, resilience, and hope. It's one of the most auspicious motifs in Japanese culture, traditionally reserved for special occasions. On this cover, it's rendered in vivid red amid shiranami waves and makigumo clouds traced in bright blue on a white background, in a richly layered composition reminiscent of grand festival textiles from the Edo era.
